Arrival in the hotel and getting to know Aussie's crawlers

As we both were quite tired and stressed from the immigration procedures we quickly decided to just get on a taxi to get to the hotel rather than looking for the right trains or buses struggling with all of our luggage we had. In a little small-talk with the Indian taxi-driver we found out that he came to Australia / Sydney with the same plan or approach as we did. He started to study Information technologies in Sydney but had to break early because he wasn't able to afford the costs of living and studying without having a full time job. Hopefully this issue will not catch on us as well 😳 But let's think positive heading on to the arrival at the hotel and our room.

We booked the "Sydney boutique hotel" because of it's good reviews and that it should be a 4-star hotel (at least they called themselves so) and reasonable price for the location. Surely we were wondering a little how that is possible, when we made the booking, because all other hotels around were at least at a double of the price per night, but we thought it'll be alright. There are some bad reviews even for really nice hotels - as you might have experienced as well. The receptionist was kind really keen on getting home when we arrived so he was doing check-in and everything really quick. That included also to get around the block and up the really narrow stairs in close to running speed which was kind of HIIT training for us with our 38 kg of total luggage each.

Hotel entry
(photo taken the other day; it was night when we arrived; and we did not recognize the construction site until the next morning)
But we made it and were again relieved to have a room with a bed and a shower where normal sleep should be possible again after the 22 hours with some half-sleep in sitting position. The other side of the medal was that this description basically was everything we had in that room, not more not less. It was not really spacious (we were lucky that we were at least able to open our luggage), it did not even have a window and it was not the cleanest room we've had so far in our lives. Another could say now "you get what you pay for" which is definitely the case in this hotel.
Having arranged ourselves we made a little walk around to grab something to drink for both of us at the small shopping centre around the corner. It turned out the close to the hotel there were a lot of small and nice cafes, bakeries, etc. which we decided to check out the next day. On the way back to the hotel we were both totally looking forward to just lay down and have more than a few hours sleep in a row. When we opened the door to the room and turned on the light Denise startled suddenly that she saw something quickly walking on the floor right into the bathroom. In the last ours on the plane I was reading the chapter about the most occurring spiders in Australia and how to handle them and was hoping not to meet the first one already the first evening. Having this in mind I made my way to the bathroom and found three cockroaches crawling around on the floor. I gave them short shrift caught in a glass and thrown out of the small window in the bathroom. This basically destroyed our wish for a relaxed sleep as both of us were kind of awake again and thinking whether there would be more of them already in our room that we just did not see.
As we had no other option we decided to try to sleep anyways and make the best of this situation. There was Sydney right down the stairs that waited to be explored and continuously praying "no there are no other roaches in the room and no spiders and nothing will walk around your stuff or even over you" can be a nice version of counting sheep too. 😶😴 I was able to fall asleep quite good but had not the deepest sleep whilst it was even worse for Denise who was at least able to sleep a little as well.
After this shock the following picturing the cleanliness level of the "hotel" will not be that bad anymore I guess. 😜
The next post will be all about our 1-day sightseeing tour throughout Sydney. Which will be up and online soon.
